Hello Friends!
After months of non-papercrafting projects, I finally spent some time in my craft room to create card for some of our best friends who recently purchased a new home!
This card features Simon Says Stamp’s July Card Kit, Home Sweet Home. I’m so happy I was able to get my hands on it before it sold out! It was the perfect kit to make the perfect new home card for our dearest friends! While the kit is sold out, the Home Sweet Home stamp set is available for purchase separately. I actually haven’t purchased a SSS Card Kit for a few years now, but when I saw this one I immediately thought of our dearest friends and just had to get my hands on it!
Slim cards seem to be the new trend in cardmaking right now. I haven’t refreshed my stash of supplies in quite some time and was happy to do so over the past couple months. There’s a lot of catching up to do!
Have you ever finished inking a background and absolutely love it…and as you are about to close the lid of the ink pad…just accidentally drop the ink pad onto your work surface? Yeah…that happened here. So this final background featured in this picture was actually the second attempt!
A few years ago, I strolled into a Kelly’s Paper Store to purchase some A7 envelopes for a friend’s wedding invite and realized that they carried Neenah cardstock! I immediately purchased a ream of each of the 80lb. And 110lb. Class Crest Solar White and the 80lb. Desert Storm Cardstock! Of course, they carry the reams at Simon Says Stamp and on Amazon as well, but I’m linking Kelly Paper Store since that’s where I purchased mine.
For the slim card, I used Mama Elephant’s Slim Card Basics Creative Cuts. I cut the scalloped frame on The Paper Mill: Glama Natural Clear 48lb. Vellum while the stitched frame was cut on 80lb Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock.
For the cloud background, I used the cloud die in this set on the same 80lb. Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock as a stencil. I rotated and flipped this makeshift stencil using Tim Holtz’s Distress Ink Cubes in Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry, and Mustard Seed to create the cloud cover background.
The Home Sweet Home stamp set is sized perfectly for a slim card. I stamped the city scene with Simon Says Stamp Intense Black Ink on the same 80lb. Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. This ink works well with Copic Markers and this cardstock works well with alcohol inks! So it was a perfect combination.
I then adhered the frames and background onto to some Neenah Desert Storm 80lb cardstock.
Since I was going to hand deliver this card, I had layers of foam tape on it! A few years ago, I discovered that Uline carried a 1/8” thick (and 1” wide) foam tape that seemed suitable for cardmaking for a very affordable price. I’ve been buying my foam tape from them for a few years now and have not had any issues being used on cards! I highly recommend them! They have three different types of thickness available in white or black. Prior to this discovery I was using 3M’s double sided foam tape that I purchased off Amazon, but I always felt it didn’t always give my cards the rise I desired and I’d have to double it up. That meant I went through a roll much faster than anticipated. The Uline foam tape was definitely on the more affordable end.
