Tacos for Days

Hello Friends!

Welcome to another Foodie Friday!

Today, we are all about tacos. My taco obsession really started when I traveled to Mexico City for work in October 2019. I know right? Where the hell have I been? Seriously though, I had some of the best tacos in Mexico City.

The photos do not do them justice, that’s for sure. I have yet to find a place that serves anything close to the ones pictured. I’ll update this post in the future when I find out the exact names and details of the tacos above. Apparently, I was so impatient that I did not take any pictures of the menu. I do remember the taste vividly though. Stay tuned for more details!

I hope you find some time to visit the three places I mention below. There are many, many more for us to explore in LA. This is just a few that have caught our attention over the past several months!

Now, time for some local Los Angeles love for tacos…

Los California Tacos

510 S. Fair Oaks Ave.
Pasadena, CA 91105

I’d like to introduce you to one of our favorite go-to places for street style tacos, Los California Tacos. It’s a food truck that’s stationed out in a parking lot in Pasadena every evening from 5pm-11p Sunday through Thursday and 5p-1a Friday through Saturday. They have been around since 1979, according to their website.

The tacos are decently priced at $1.64 + tax. I will say that the prices do change frequently, but they’re totally worth it! Al-Pastor is my favorite from them! I get it mild with onions and cilantro and a lot of lime. My boyfriend loves their Asada tacos hot with onions and cilantro.

Recently, they started serving nachos with meat of your choice.

Based on experience and the menu they have, it does not appear they serve vegetarian or vegan options. However, I did not inquire about it.

So if you are ever in the area, give them a try! I guarantee it’s worth it! It’s street parking, but we’ve never had trouble finding a spot. There’s an outdoor eating area off to the side, standing only, and garbage cans available for you to dispose your trash.

Guisados

541 S. Spring St. Unit 101
Los Angeles, CA 90013

This is definitely a local Los Angeles favorite. They have seven locations: Pasadena (new), Boyle Heights, Echo Park, Downtown LA, West Hollywood, Burbank, and Beverly Hills. They are also on Postmates and GrubHub if you are curious.

I’ve only ever visited their Downtown LA and Echo Park locations. Parking is limited at their Echo Park location, but usually we’d find street parking. Downtown LA, well, it’s Downtown LA…it’s paid parking everywhere if you’re lucky.

Their tacos start at $3.25 each. Seafood tacos are $3.50. They also do quesadillas and breakfast tacos as well. Super yummy, but a little on the pricier side for tacos. Very unique flavors if you’re into that. You can visit their website for the full menu and details.

Guerrilla Tacos

In Season 2, Episode 3 “Guerrilla Tacos” of Netflix’s Chef Show, Roy Choi and Jon Favreau visit Chef Wes Avila in one of their Los Angeles locations to make their famous tostada and sweet potato tacos. We watched this episode on a Saturday and we went out to visit them on Sunday. That’s the beauty of living in Downtown LA—access to an unlimited food source/restaurants.

The tostada and sweet potato tacos featured on the show…let me tell you…they were to die for! Their menu is very unique and definitely on the high end spectrum for tacos. We are looking forward to going back to try the rest of their menu!

Happy Eating!

XOXO
